Out of School Tuition Tutors

Join our brand as an independent tutor — we provide the platform, tools, and training; you build your own tutoring business under Out of School.

Out of School gives independent tutors everything needed to run a professional online tuition business — a ready-made platform, structured homework tools, progress tracking, and training — while you find and teach your own students under the Out of School brand, covering Years 1 to 6 across Maths, English, SATs, and 11+ preparation.

Not an employment opportunity. Out of School does not employ tutors, pay a salary, or offer job status. Tutors run their own independent tutoring business under the Out of School brand, using our platform, tools, and training. Our commercial model and current availability are explained below. Read the Tutor Terms and Privacy Notice; your approved pathway and commercial activation date are confirmed during onboarding.

Build your own tutoring business under an established brand

Use Out of School tools to manage your own students, review homework and discuss progress with parents. Approved one-to-one tutors can also offer separate online lessons, which families with a platform plan book and pay for online, subject to availability and suitability.

UK-based independent tutors ready to build their own student base

This suits tutors who want to run their own tutoring business without building their own systems from scratch. You’ll need to be a UK resident with the right to work in the UK, comfortable working independently online, and ready to bring or build your own student base under the Out of School brand.

Structured homework support

Tutors help students use short, focused tasks to build routine and confidence without overwhelming families.

Progress monitoring

Performance information helps tutors see where students are secure and where extra support is needed.

Topic gap support

Tutors can focus support on specific learning gaps instead of relying on guesswork or random worksheets.

Professional online working

Applicants should be comfortable communicating professionally and following safeguarding and privacy expectations.

Backed by a G-Cloud approved supplier

Green Business Tools, the company behind Out of School, is an approved supplier on the UK Government's G-Cloud 15 framework (Lot 2b, RM1557.15). This makes us eligible for consideration by public sector buyers — it is not a guarantee of specific government, defence, or relocation-service contracts.

Tutor availability and profiles

Families should use their signed-in parent portal to see the approved tutors and lesson availability offered to their account. Eligibility, approval and availability determine which lessons can be booked. This is separate from tutor earnings settlement; see the current commercial status below.

Choose how you want to support families

1. Platform Access and Progress Plus support

Manage your own students' home learning, review assigned work and monitor progress. For Progress Plus, provide the two included parent progress meetings each month.

  • Full identity verification is required.
  • Right-to-work evidence is required.
  • Proof of address is required.
  • Complete platform onboarding and follow privacy and safeguarding standards.

Platform-support-only tutors cannot offer or deliver one-to-one lessons. This pathway covers Platform Access and Progress Plus support only. Any additional safeguarding checks are determined before approval according to your duties and contact with children.

Families who join through your link are your students. If they want one-to-one lessons, they can book an approved listed one-to-one tutor; the child stays your student for the subscription.

2. Online one-to-one tuition and platform support

Approved online one-to-one tutors can do both: provide Platform Access and Progress Plus support AND deliver one-to-one lessons. They must meet the platform-support requirements as well as all additional one-to-one requirements.

Offer standard one-hour lessons at £30 per session or, following suitability review, SEND one-hour lessons at £40 per session.

  • Full identity verification, right-to-work evidence and proof of address are required.
  • Complete the required DBS and safeguarding checks before working with pupils.
  • Provide relevant qualifications and experience for review.
  • For SEND tuition, describe relevant training, experience and needs you can support.

Documents and suitability must be approved before lessons start. The team will confirm the complete evidence requirements during onboarding.

You get your own students and their one-to-one lessons: families who join through your link can book lessons only with you. You can also receive lesson bookings from Out of School, agent-referred and platform-support tutors' families through the listed-tutor directory.

Choose your pathway on the application form. Choose platform support only, or the combined one-to-one and platform-support pathway. Platform-support-only approval does not permit one-to-one lessons. SEND tuition also requires a separate suitability review.

Bring your students and support their learning

Independent tutors bring and manage their own students, review the homework the system sets for them (adjusting it when needed), monitor progress and provide the parent meetings included in their students' chosen plan. Platform and agent-referred families are managed by the Out of School team.

What is live and what is being prepared

Since 2 November 2026, parents pay Out of School directly at £30 or £45 a month, and tutors no longer subscribe students or pay a tutor bill. Since 4 November 2026, families with a Platform Access or Progress Plus plan can book and pay for standard one-hour lessons online with approved one-to-one tutors whose documents have been verified. The tutor earnings shares below and payouts are still being finalised and are not active yet. Your applicable terms and launch arrangements will be confirmed before you start.

Who parents can book

Under the booking model: families who sign up through Out of School or an agent link are Out of School students and can book any approved listed one-to-one tutor. Families who join through a platform-support-only tutor's link are that tutor's students; that tutor cannot teach one-to-one, so these families can book any approved listed one-to-one tutor and the child stays that tutor's student for the subscription. Families who join through an approved one-to-one tutor's link are that tutor's students and can book lessons only with that tutor. Delivering a lesson to another tutor's or a platform student does not transfer that student's subscription to you.

Payments and agent referrals

Parents pay Out of School directly through its approved payment process; tutor earnings will be accounted for from those payments. A referring agent receives £5 for each paid platform subscription month; this is separate from tutor earnings and does not apply to lesson bookings. Booking, earnings statements and payout arrangements will be confirmed at launch.

Optional SEND tuition

Applicants who wish to support children with special educational needs and disabilities should choose the combined pathway and describe relevant experience, training and the needs they can support in the SEND section of the application form. This offering requires review and confirmation of suitability; choosing it does not itself approve you to deliver SEND tuition. Do not include children's private details.

From application to teaching

  3. Complete required identity, right-to-work and safeguarding checks through the team's secure document process.
  4. Agree the applicable tutor terms, complete onboarding and confirm what you can offer.
  5. Start supporting pupils only after approval and confirmation of access.
